What is mediation?

Mediation is a non-adversarial informal process that allows people to reach a mutually acceptable and voluntary agreement.  A mediator, a trained neutral person, assists the parties in crafting an enduring agreement.

Why mediation? 

Ø      Cost:  generally, mediation will cost less then litigation

Ø      Speed:  the length of time for the mediation process is determined by the parties, there are no artificial deadlines set by the courts.

Ø      Control:  mediation permits the parties to control their agreements as well as eliminates a win-lose atmosphere.

Ø      Maintenance of relationships:  maintaining a good relationship in the family for the future well-being of children matters.

Ø      Confidentiality:   everything that happens in mediation is private and confidential.  Litigation through the courts is a public proceeding and public records.

Ø      Voluntary:  parties enter into mediation on a voluntary basis which assists in providing a forum for current disputes and future disputes.
